Mission
The Surleau Academy is a free company founded as a school for adults of all backgrounds. Its curriculum is two-fold. The day-school aims to train would-be adventurers in the skills of survival and exploration so they may not perish untimely and bring early grief to their friends and loved ones. Fees paid by adventurer students then underwrite a night school for various adults who may need instruction in adult literacy and vocational skills.The Surleau Academy is currently seeking qualified faculty for all areas of instruction. Applicants may forward a prospectus and testimonial to Ser Severaux Vilauclaire, headmaster and head administrator of the school.The house is also open to RPers and sightseers of all types provided they are polite and follow the rules of the house.
Faculty and Staff
Severaux Vilauclaire
Severaux is the Surleau Academy's headmaster and chief administrator; he is also its financial backer and one of the instructors available. A retired soldier of mixed Ishgardian and Gridanian origins, Severaux grew bored of his medically mandated indolence in retirement, and sought to fill his hours with various other pursuits.The Surleau Academy is his brainchild: combining his very interesting skill-set and expertise with a means with which to leave Etheirys a better place. Severaux is generally a very busy man — he knows no other habit — and he can be found doing research for an Archonship in cryptography and ciphers when he is not otherwise occupied with the tasks required to run the Academy smoothly.
Khi'ra Kothari
Professor Khi’ra Kothari trained in the arts of Conjury at the Altar of Nophica in Gridania, where he served his novitiate until graduating to the Maelstrom Foreign Levy Medical Division. He continued his education at the Maelstrom’s teaching hospital in practical field medicine, surgery, and medically oriented applications of both alchemy and the culinary arts. He has recently retired from active duty with the Maelstrom following injuries sustained in the course of duty in Ilsabard, though he remains part of the Maelstrom reserves.At the Surleau Academy, Professor Kothari teaches courses in practical medicine, alchemy, and botany, as well as serving as the academy infirmary’s attending physican. Styled after the free clinic he underwrites in Ul’dah, the infirmary is equipped with all the most modern advancements in medicine, both practical and magickal.
Rah'vi Kothari
Professor Rah’vi Kothari pursued a nontraditional apprenticeship in the arts of Arcanima from a young age, achieving the skills of a master summoner during the course of his training. Seduced by the opportunity to consume his brother’s cooking on a regular basis and to conduct meaningful research with an actual roof over his head, he accepted a position at Surleau Academy, where he teaches courses on Arcanima as well as music and several practical arts workshops per semester.
Suisen Kusakari
Suisen Kusakari is a former adventurer, having temporarily retired so her orphaned younger brother may have a chance to grow up in relative security. She serves as the Academy's cook and den mother for boarding students. Her skills as an adventurer are many — she has traveled all over the face of the planet at this point, and slept under many different skies.Suisen is Headmaster Vilauclaire's adopted niece, having come from Doma as an orphaned refugee, and is very much his daughter in all but name. He has never expected her to call him father, not wanting to take the place of her own late father.Suisen is best described as a three hundred ponzes of murderous violence in a ninety ponze frame, but she is also one of the best cooks on the face of Etheirys.

Aspen Hyland
Budding cryomancer Aspen Hyland is a youthful Veena boy hailing from a village in the snowy Skatay mountains, come from his remote home to explore the world around him with enthusiasm that doesn’t match his typically aloof attitude.Barely over the standard of adulthood by his own admission, the boy knows little of other cultures, and frequently finds himself at a loss, compounded further by his horrible communication skills and tendency to stay quiet.Coupled with situational health issues and a knack for getting deeply lost in his interests, Aspen has ended up as a live-in student of Surleau Academy… both for his benefit, and so those he’s befriended get to worry less about whether or not the poor boy is collapsed somewhere, having forgotten to take care of himself properly. What kinds of adventures await this young man?

Grincer
Grincer is... less precisely staff and more precisely a rotund little miscreant who eats everything. An orphaned behemoth pup, Grincer has never achieved adult growth or ferocity. His owner, Healer Khi'ra Kothari, suspects that Grincer's unique size and personality are due to some unknown inbreeding in order to create more lap-pets for the Ul'dahn markets.Grincer's duties around the Academy include mousing (by eating them), slug disposal (by eating them), compost inspection (by eating the choicest bits), and pest control (by unleashing farts so potent and horrifying that most vilekin drop dead from the smell.)Grincer loves belly rubs.
